Thomas “Tom” A. Krause, age 93 of Strongsville, passed away May 12, 2022.  Loving husband of 60 years to Dolores (nee: Novak).  Loving father to Thomas J. Krause, John F. Krause (Jinni) and Marie E. Krause.  Devoted Grandfather to Kevin and Connor Krause.  He was preceded in death by his beloved sisters: Norma Herzfeld, Virginia Coleman and Patricia Krause, and survived by cherished nieces and nephews.

Tom was a member of the Plain Dealer Sports Department for over 40 years and a US Army Veteran.

After graduating from Charles F. Brush High School, he enlisted in the army serving three years in the Adjutant General's Corps, including two years in the occupation of Japan, where he was assigned to General Headquarters in Tokyo (1947-48).

Tom was a graduate of John Carroll University, where he majored in English, with a minor in Journalism, and was Sports Editor of the Carroll News for two years and Sports Editor of the Carillon, the school yearbook.

He joined the Plain Dealer as a reporter shortly after graduating from J.C.U. and covered local colleges in the mid 1950s, along with some high school writing.  Tom later worked on the copy desk, was slot man (a job in which he laid out the section), and sports makeup-editor.

He also wrote about skiing for twelve years, during which he skied throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe.  He later covered horse racing and handicapped the horses at Thistledown and Northfield Park.

In his spare time Tom enjoyed traveling, skiing and golf, and was an avid reader, reading hundreds of books in his lifetime.
