Rita Anna Cavalieri LaMoreaux passed away Oct. 31, 2021 with her children at her side after complications from surgery due to preexisting conditions.
She was born Sept. 15, 1933 in Cleveland, Ohio to parents Angeline and Nicola Cavalieri. She moved to Parma and then Parma Hts. where she lived for 60 years.
After graduating from Parma Schaaf High School in 1951, Rita worked for the ALCOA company as a secretary. She was extremely proficient at shorthand which could be detected in her handwriting decades later. When a friend suggested Rita go to Ohio State University with her, off Rita went not really knowing what she was going to be. She always loved OSU and especially enjoyed watching the marching band.
Rita graduated from The Ohio State University in 1957 with a B.S. in Pharmacy. She never thought of herself as a pioneer or role model, but that was exactly what she was to her children when they chose their own careers.
After spending several years raising her family and working occasionally in drug stores, Rita began working full-time at Southwest General Hospital in Middleburg Hts. and retired from there after 25 years.
Rita was intelligent and quick-witted, hardworking, and a loving mother to her children whom she always put first. She will be greatly missed by her children, extended family, and all who knew her.
She is survived by her four children: Tom LaMoreaux (Jackie) of Grafton; Karen LaMoreaux (Joe Daschner) of Parma; Cindy Prendergast (Gerry) of Piedmont, SC; Janice Rihm (Chuck) of Medina; along with eight grandchildren: Jessica Smith (Chad); Jennifer Riley (Seth); Scott LaMoreaux (Ashley); Richard Maynard (Samantha); Timothy Maynard; James Rihm; Joseph Prendergast; Sean Prendergast; and nine great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her siblings Mary Staufer (Don) of Parma; Nick Cavalieri (Avalon) of Columbus, OH; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Private family services only with a public memorial mass at a later time. SERVICES ENTRUSTED TO A. RIPEPI & SONS FUNERAL HOME, MIDDLEBURG HTS. (WEST OF I-71)
