MICHAEL MANSFIELD Obituary

MANSFIELD

MICHAEL MANSFIELD age 64. Passed peacefully Friday June 15, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Cynthia (nee Ficyk). Loving father of Melissa Koren (Jay), Carly Mansfield and Caitlin Andel (Brian). Cherished grandfather of Evan and Mason Koren, Christian, Brandon and Chase Mansfield. Dearest son of the late Francis and Edith Mansfield. Dear brother of Ed Mansfield (late Char), Vicki Marzi (Curt), and the late Theresa Ogden and Steve Mansfield.

Mike was an accomplished drummer who loved his music and played with many bands over the years, bringing joy to music fans in the greater Cleveland Area. A Musical Celebration of his life will be celebrated at a later date. Mick (Michael) Mansfield loved life and lived it well. He was a man who gave of himself freely - whether as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, or friend.

Mick made his living as a  warehouse manager for a number of companies, including AE Clevite, SS Kemp/Trimark, FCI and Interstate-McBee, where he earned respect and admiration for not only the job he did so well but also for the way he made people feel - valued and appreciated. Though his work ethic was impeccable, his passions in life were his family and his music and throughout his life, he dedicated himself to both with fervor.

Mick was an accomplished drummer/musician. For over 40 years, he played in many local bands in the Cleveland area - Fresh, Islands, The Miles Boozer Band, Odd, The Droolin’ Julies, Moon Age, The Wham Bam Jam Band, Intrigue, Exit, Steel Woody and others. Though he loved playing in each and every one of them, his favorite was the all-original band the lowlies, in which he shared the stage with his brother, Ed Mansfield and brother-in-law, Chip Ficyk. He brought joy to many who not only loved and appreciated his playing style, but also his quick wit, easy-going nature and the way he supported other musicians. He made countless friends through his music and cherished them as much as they cherished him.

Mick was a devoted family man. He loved unconditionally and gave selflessly to those he loved. Mick was always there to lend a hand, give advice, provide comfort, take care of you when you needed it or give you wings to soar when you didn’t. He brought laughter into our lives. He brightened our days with his smile. His laugh was infectious and he always found much to laugh about. He had a way of looking at the oddities of life, the mundane, and finding the humor in it. Many times, the humor expressed in quirky sayings that we now affectionately call “Mick-isms.” It was his gift - one that lives on in his three beloved daughters and five cherished grandsons, of whom he was very proud. By his example, he made us better people. He made us happy.

As John Lennon once said, “It matters not who you love, where you love, why you love, when you love or how you love, it matters only that you love.” Mick knew what mattered. He loved.

A celebration of this wonderful man is being planned for the near future. Information about the event will be posted on Facebook. We hope you will join us in honoring his memory.
