Lowell Walker Obituary

Lowell E. Walker, age 87, passed away February 14, 2024.  Loving husband of 61 years to Virginia "Ginny" (nee: Day).  Devoted father to Keith Walker (Barbara), Bruce Walker (Sonya) and Margo Tish (Jeff).  Grandfather to Luke, Katrina, Rachel, Alex, Paul, Tyler and Ellie.  Brother to Olen Walker (Lois, deceased), Arlene Morrison, deceased (Dave, deceased) and Yvonne Miesel (Lou, deceased).

Born on August 20th, 1936 to Lloyd and Mabel Walker of Paris, Ohio, he learned a strong work ethic while growing up on the family farm. He worked to put himself through college and graduated with a business degree from Mount Union College. After meeting through mutual friends during their college years, he married his sweetheart, Virginia Day, on June 23rd 1962. They made their home and family on Baker Street in Berea Ohio, raising their three children there.

Lowell was very active in the community as a member of the Jaycees and Rotary Club. He held many leadership roles, serving on multiple committees at St. Paul Lutheran Church, and had a strong faith in God. He was honored to serve on the Southwest General Hospital Board for 10 years. He was also chosen to serve on the Berea Community Development Corporation Board. He spent his 38-year career in banking with Central National and Huntington Bank as a branch manager and later in private banking. He served in the Army National Reserve from 1959 to 1962.

Lowell loved the game of baseball, playing through high school, coaching multiple little league teams, and was a lifelong fan of the sport. An avid and skilled golfer, Lowell could often be found on the golf course with business associates, friends, children and grandchildren. Known as ‘Mr. Fix It to his family, he was known for his ability to fix just about anything and his home improvement projects that enhanced the family home. He could often be found out at the grill, cooking up hamburgers with beef from the family farm, fixed perhaps with a tomato from his own garden. He took the lessons from his life and taught them to his family, enjoying fishing, tossing around a ball, and camping trips with his children, creating memories that they will cherish forever.

His faith, his integrity and loyalty were hallmarks to all who were blessed to know him. He was a devoted husband and caretaker to his wife, providing a loving example for their own children and grandchildren. His family takes great comfort in knowing he is safe and secure in his heavenly home.
