KENNETH HANSON Obituary

KENNETH R. HANSON age 78. Beloved husband of Diane (nee Andexler). Loving father of Jeffrey (Andrea), Gregory (Tracey) and Keith (Karen) Hanson. Devoted grandfather of Carter and Chase. U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran and retired from Cleveland Cliffs. Ken was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather and a true friend to many.  Whether it was as a son traveling to the nursing home to take dinner with his aging father every night for years, offering accounting assistance to countless friends and family in preparing their taxes, decades of coaching his sons’ little league baseball teams or through his devotion in caring for his wife of nearly 53 years, Ken always put others before himself.  He had a life-long love of the outdoors and the enjoyment that Ken took in fishing and hunting was exceeded only by the joy it brought him to spend the time doing so with his sons, grandsons and close fishing and hunting buddies.  As a young man, Ken raised beagles with his father and was successful in field training competitions.  He proudly served two years for his country in the Army with 13 months in Vietnam.  Upon return, Ken loved spending time in the country at his in-law's farm, tending to the gardens, gathering wood for the winter and helping his father-in-law fix endless amounts of farm equipment.  As much as he was lovingly teased for being a “city boy”, Ken also enjoyed cracking jokes and could take it as well as he could dish it out.  His generosity in sharing vegetables from his garden at the farm and later from the garden at his cousin’s never diminished.   In retirement after 36 years at Cleveland Cliffs, Ken enjoyed cheering on his grandkids’ sports events, regular meetings with his “retired family” of neighbors at each other’s houses and going out with his wife for all-you-can-eat shrimp.  Ken was a good husband, father, grandfather & friend who will be remembered fondly by many.
