John L. Price, 78, was a loving husband, father, grandpa, friend, and brother. He died on November 22, 2022 after a years-long progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
John was born in 1944 in Greensburg, PA to Walter and Mayna Price. He did not meet his father, who was fighting in the war, until he was a toddler. He moved frequently as a child, living on Marine bases around the country, and landed in Erie, PA shortly before high school. He graduated from Cathedral Prep and received an accounting degree from Gannon College. In Erie, he met his wife Ginger on a blind date. They married in 1966 and moved to Cleveland, Ohio.
John began his career as an auditor and CPA, but later became a pension specialist and founded a company, Omega Pensions, which he built into a successful retirement and investment advisory business.
John was an avid and optimistic sports fan of all the Cleveland teams, a trait he cultivated and passed down to his six children. The game, whatever the season, was always on and he was cheering the loudest. On a weekend, he was out early for a round of golf with his friends, doing
some gardening or making another trip to the hardware store. He was the voice of Padua Bruins football for 20 years with his best friend, Joe Shuman. He and his family were founding members of St. Matthias Parish (Parma) where he was involved in many ministries over the years. One of his favorites was regularly visiting sick parishioners and friends to encourage and pray with them. He played the accordion from a young age, filling the house with polkas, playing Christmas carols with the neighbors, and leading praise songs at church. He loved gadgets of all kinds and could not pass up a bag of salty peanuts.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved grandson, Myles Ketterer. He is survived by his wife, Ginger, his children Andrea (Matthew) Sullivan of Nashville, TN, John (Hilde Jarstadmarken) of Oslo, Norway, Todd (Sara) of Evanston, IL, Suzi (Vince) Ketterer of Strongsville, Amy (Jason) Hoover of Medina, and Dan (Suzanne) of Cleveland. His fifteen grandchildren called him Papa John and are Aidan, Jack, Maggie, and Nora Sullivan; Annika, Ingrid, and Katrina Price; Sam and Abby Price; Myles, Ben, and Ava Ketterer; Maya and Cain Hoover, and Eliot Price. His siblings, Bob, Toni, and Mark also survive him.
Funeral services will be private. The family will receive friends SATURDAY 1-4 PM at the A. RIPEPI AND SONS FUNERAL HOME, 18149 BAGLEY RD., MIDDLEBURG HTS. (WEST OF I-71).
In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted to Youth Challenge of Greater Cleveland at youthchallengesports.com or the Greater Cleveland Food Bank at greaterclevelandfoodbank.org
