Joanne D. (Deal) Schrenk

Joanne Bane Schrenk (nee: Deal), age 75, passed peacefully on Friday, January 1, 2021. Joanne was born to the late Roger Denet Deal and the late Norma Jim on the Navajo Reservation in Bisti, New Mexico. She attended the Navajo Indian Missionary Boarding School in Farmington, New Mexico. In 1965, at the age of 18, she came to Cleveland, Ohio through the American Indian Relocation Program.  Joanne spent her career as a hairdresser, owning her own salon in North Ridgeville, Ohio and retiring in 2013. She enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, reading her Bible, attending her grand-childrens' sporting events and traveling. She was involved with the Cleveland American Indian Education Center in the late 1980s and attended area pow-wows.  She was also a member of the Navajo Nation. Joanne is survived by daughter Cheryl (husband Curtis Theriot), daughter Amy Yeung, son Robert Bane (wife Maria), and daughter Amy (husband Matt Decker).  Joanne's nine grand-children will miss her greatly: Joshua Ensign, Dallas Ensign, Bryan Theriot, Rachel Theriot, Sydney Decker, Mason Decker, Robert Bane Jr., Michael Bane, and Lily Yeung.  There will be no local service for her.  A memorial service, at a later date, will be held in New Mexico.
