Be the first to offer your condolences on Jerry's Tribute Wall
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Jerry Karl Helwig, age 72, passed away on December 11, 2023. Jerry had suffered with Alzheimer’s disease and was residing in the Kemper House nursing home in Strongsville, OH, when he passed away peacefully in his sleep.
Jerry was a strong-willed and hard-working man, yet caring and generous. He always made sure to help those in need and took great care of his family. Born in Fairview Park, OH, on September 12, 1951, Jerry was the 2nd of 5 children born to Fred and Betty Helwig. After graduating from Ashland University, he ventured out to Salt Lake City, UT, where he attended the University of Utah and received a degree in Art. There in Salt Lake City, he married and had two daughters, Deidre and Stephanie. Jerry later returned to Fairview Park, OH, after he and his wife divorced, and joined the family business, A&F Machine Products.
Shortly after he returned to Ohio, Jerry met Peggy Martin. It was a match made in heaven. The two of them would spend the rest of their lives together in Jerry’s home in Fairview Park. Jerry and Peggy enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren, taking short trips to see our beautiful country, and creating magnificent works of art together. Jerry especially loved spending time in his yard and greatly appreciated the outdoors. He loved camping, fishing, hiking, boating, skiing, etc. Jerry even loved riding roller coasters well into his forties.
Jerry is survived by his two daughters, Deidre and Stephanie; his siblings, Fred Jr., Jane, William, and Peggy; his grandchildren, Ashlynn, Gavin, Harley, and Navy; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sweetheart, Peggy Martin, and both parents, Fred Helwig, Sr., and Betty Helwig. Jerry made a lasting impression on all who knew him and he will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Jerry Karl Helwig on Saturday, January 20, 2024. Please contact a member of his family if you would like to attend, or for more information.
