ALFRED CHARLES CORTELEZZI went to be with the Lord on August 11, 2021 surrounded by family while under Hospice Home Care. He was born March 20, 1935 in Cleveland, OH to Fermo & Mary Cortelezzi who proceeded him in death. Al is also predeceased by his brothers Dante (Norma) and Rico along with Barbara.
Al leaves his wife, Mary Joanne, of 56 wonderful years, daughter Kristine Acree (Joseph) of Taylorsville, KY, daughter Lynn Cortelezzi of Cincinnati, OH and grandson, Justin Acree of Taylorsville, KY.
Al grew up in the West 25th area of Cleveland attending St Rocco Catholic Elementary School, Lincoln High School then attending Fenn College (which is now Cleveland State).
Al served his country in the army where he went through basic training in Fort Hood, TX with Elvis Presley. They both were deployed to Gelnhausen, Germany.
Al worked 34 years for General Motors as an Accounting Supervisor in Cleveland, OH then in Mansfield, OH. After retiring from General Motors in 1991, Al applied and was accepted as an extra in “Shawshank Redemption” which was filmed at the old Reformatory in Mansfield, OH. He worked along aside Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins. It was a lifetime dream experience working in the film. Al was fortunate to be able to retire early and live more of his life retired than working. The Villages, FL served as his home for the last 20 years.
Al will be greatly missed by the many friends he leaves behind in Ohio and Florida. He was active in antiques, square dancing, playing cards, Italian class, and water aerobics. He kept in close contact with his relatives in Europe taking his family many times to Italy for visits. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Columbkille Church, Tuesday August 24, 2021 at 10:00 AM. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends (WITH MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING REQUIRED) Monday 4 – 8 PM at the A. RIPEPI AND SONS FUNERAL HOME, 18149 BAGLEY ROAD, MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, OH (West of I-71).
