JAMES J. KNAPIK, went to sleep peacefully on Monday, July 23, 2018 at the age of 90. James was surrounded by his cherished wife of 70 years, Louise (nee Kral) and his family. He passed in his own home, in his own bed, on his own terms. Born on July 31, 1927 in Cleveland. Beloved father of Judy Doty, James Knapik, Lois Malachowski (Mark), Patti Wisnieski (Red), Terri Stitt (Joseph, deceased), Thomas Knapik (Jennifer), Tammy Rakytiak (Ivan), John Knapik. Grandfather of Michael Hausmann (Chrissy), Barbra Pritschau (Randy), Susan Doty, Joseph Stitt, Sara Doty, Megan Baecker (Scott), Kyle Knapik, Ryan Malachowski, Carter Stitt, Nathan Malachowski, Laine Wisnieski, Patrick Wisnieski, Lauren Rakytiak, Levi Knapik. Great Grandfather of Tyler Pritschau, William Pritschau, Madeline Hausmann, Henry Hausmann, Edward Hausmann, Logan Baker. James was the son of the late Mary and Michael Knapik. Dear brother of the following deceased; Richard, Thomas, and Elaine Baldwin. Dear brother-in-law of Dorothy Knapik. Enlisted in World War II at the age of 16. Proudly served in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Mediterranean Theaters with the U.S. Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army Air Corps. Lifelong Railroader of 42 years with the Penn Central and Conrail Railroads. Parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Berea, Ohio for over 50 years. Longtime church bingo volunteer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Marianist Mission in care of Father Martin Solma, SM., 4435 East Patterson Road, Dayton, Ohio 45430. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday July 28, 2018 St. Mary Church, 250 Kraft Street at 10:00AM. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends FRIDAY 4 – 8 PM at the A. RIPEPI & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 18149 BAGLEY ROAD, MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS (WEST OF I-71).
