CARL G. ZIRBEL

CARL G. ZIRBEL, age 78, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, March 18, 2019 in Westlake, Ohio. 
Carl was born on November 24, 1940, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Richard W. and Christina Schott Zirbel. He and his siblings lived behind his father’s Layton Park Bakery until 1950, when the family moved to East Troy, Wisconsin. 

After graduating from East Troy High School in 1958, Carl attended The University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated from the School of Commerce in 1962.  He went on to earn a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan in 1970. 

Carl was employed at Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan for 34 years before retiring in 1998 as the North American Capacity and Planning Manager. Carl resided in Dearborn, Michigan, for 50 years before moving to Olmsted Township, Ohio, to live near his daughter.

 In his retirement years, Carl enjoyed taking numerous Elderhostel (Senior learning class) trips throughout the country.  He continued to volunteer at The First Presbyterian Church of Dearborn, of which he was a member for over 40 years. Carl served in other organizations, including driving for Meals on Wheels and volunteering at several Dearborn PGA golf tournaments. Carl was an avid reader and enjoyed participating in his neighborhood bookclub.

 Carl was a loyal friend, loving father, and devoted grandfather.  Survivors include children  Cindy (Eric) Tonissen of Olmsted Township and Brian (Elizabeth) Zirbel of Monroe, GA; grandchildren Luke and Anna Tonissen, Owen and Carly Zirbel;  brother John Zirbel of Silver Spring, Md.; sister, Linda (Walter) Holthaus of Madison, WI; nieces, nephews and other relatives.  He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, brother Richard and sister-in-law, Judy Zirbel.

A Memorial Service will be planned at a later date for friends and family. Memorials can be made in Carl Zirbel’s name to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
